Re: Sucks to Be An I-Bond Hater
Are you sure you can do auto roll for secondary market T-bills? My understanding is that auto roll cannot be set up for secondary market T-bills. I believe auto roll can only be set up for new issue treasury purchases. But, this is based on a phone support call with Fidelity a couple of years back....

Re: Portfolio Rebalace Notifier
would y'all sign up? Yes. I would definitely be interested in something like this. In fact, I periodically search for notification tools like this and have never found one that would work satisfactorily with a Permanent Portfolio/Golden Butterfly. I would be willing to pay a small subscription fee ...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
thanks to the work of kitces we can monitor any portfolio going forward and know whether it is on track . I'm appreciative of Kitces work. Are you aware of any research Kitces has published that looks at 50 years or a period longer than 30 years? Everything I've seen is based around 30 years. Did...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
it was not publicly owned until 1975 so it is not really fair trying to utilize an asset before it could be legally owned unless you were a coin collector . you can't possibly want to do this comparison to the point of bringing in data that is just DIS-INGENIOUS The gold component in the first fe...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
I utilized MG's data for 1965-1971 and the Craig/Simba's data for 1972+. I took withdrawals from cash and rebalanced at the 15/35 bands. Here are the results that I get: For a retirement in 1966: Portfolio: $3M Constant WR: 4.7% 1966 withdrawal from cash: $141,000 2014 withdrawal from cash: $1,090,7...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
My understanding was he didn't want the ending balance to fall below the inflation-adjusted beginning balance, ignoring year by year undershoots. The PP doesn't offer enough growth not to be depleted by inflation + withdrawals to stay above initial principal, which is a rather oddly strict rule. Y...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
Do you mean the inflation-adjusted value each year of the initial starting balance as the lower threshold for each year's total portfolio value? If one retired in 1965 and began to withdraw the same percentage from the PP each year through to the current year, what is the maximum fixed percentage t...

Re: Why the PP is better in accumulation than you think
BTW, the Browne PP survives as well, generating .43% real CAGR until 2014, assuming you held junk silver coins from 1965 to 1967 then switched to gold in 1968. 0% is at a 4.45% SWR. MG, did you happen to also calculate the maximum percentage withdrawal that would have sustained the initial princip...

Re: PP, Retirement, and Safe Withdrawal Rates
Backtesting shows the PP has been a well-crafted "bunker" (Clyatt's own admiring characterization of it) in the past, but the standard selling point on it is don't look at backtesting, look at its true diversification of assets in various economic conditions. Did Clyatt ever say why he we...

i intend to use bob clyatts withdrawal plan. i start out at 4% of the portfolio balance. each year is dynamic and i get to take 4% or if markets are down i take 4% or 5% less than the previous amount , which ever is higher. mathjak107, was there any particular intentionality behind selecting thi...
