Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/05/02/police-low-vaccination-rates-safety-concerns/ Many police officers spurn coronavirus vaccines as departments hold off on mandates Low immunization levels suggest hesitancy is pervasive, posing risks to public safety We have a hospital nurse friend wh...

The thing I see the least value in is the cash component. In HB's times it would be earning several percent interest.

Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

You should try living in Australia..... Received a letter from the police that my 1887 lever action shotgun in now "a weapon of mass destruction". It's been classified in with machine guns and the letter states if I sell this old shotgun, I will NEVER be able to purchase a replacement. The nice old...

Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

You know how airline check in counters have a box for checking the size of carry on bags? Could they just do something like that for all these guns? If it fits inside this box, it's a handgun. If it doesn't fit inside this box, it's a long gun. If it folds or telescopes, check it at its smallest siz...

Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

Does the lethality of the weapon change depending on whether the thing the boolits come out of is smooth or has rifling grooves inside of it? Like say that birds head gizmo, if the boolits thingy had spiral grooves, then what kind of gun would it be? Yes. Rifling causes the boolit to spin, increasi...

Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

https://image.sportsmansguide.com/adimgs/l/6/647231m2_ts.jpg So this Judge gizmo fires shotgun shells. And the boolit boom thingy has grooves. But it has a pistol grip. Is it a shotgun, or a short barrelled shotgun, or just a pistol? What if I put one of those butt stock contraptions onto it to mak...

Back when Pritzger's daily Covid news conference was live TV, he looked absolutely gleeful and glowing. Very animated. He was loving it. Did either of you two pick up on that?

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I agree with being skeptical about the PP. Just got tired of hearing the same thing a hundred different ways from mathjak.

Every time stocks are hitting glorious new highs, the PP loses appeal to some people. They do the what if math and conclude the PP was a mistake.

Re: Biden promised zero taxes, no wonder he won

I didn't know this. Now I question why trump had any votes at all. https://www.mediaite.com/news/watch-biden-says-anyone-making-less-than-400000-a-year-will-not-pay-a-single-penny-in-taxes/ I've seen it reported that he wants everyone making <75K to be off the income tax roll. I don't think that's ...

The Liberals Who Can’t Quit Lockdown "Progressive communities have been home to some of the fiercest battles over COVID-19 policies, and some liberal policy makers have left scientific evidence behind." That is a great article. I don't know anyone like those people. But I think some are not too far...

US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

Here is a short video for both owners and non owners of guns, explaining how guns are classified by BATF. Because it's made in a cartoon format, you might think it is satire. But, it's all true. Even the shoestring having once been classified as a machine gun (see below for the ATF explanatory lette...

Why do 30% of your fellow Democrats also believe that Trump won the election? That's not what the article he linked says. ... Although there is no evidence of fraud or wrongdoing in the 2020 election, many still say that Biden did not legitimately win enough votes to become president. The poll sugg...

Cole seems to be one of the few pointing out the risk that institutional pension funds have created with an over-reliance on equities. Average is now almost 70%. Many were in very poor shape leading into the pandemic. Here is a decent interview regarding the national debt too: https://www.readtangl...

Re: Chauvin Verdict

There is a thread buried somewhere here, "When police are the problem."

I'll agree that we have a police problem. But not a racist or white supremicist police problem. I'm paraphrasing John McWhorter on that.

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

jalan, your remorse is very typical of PP holders during stock bull runs. After writing that, I guess I can see where someone would say back to me, "Yeah, see my point?" But get back to us after the next crash. Which, whatever it turns out to be exactly, is going to be yuge.

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I have been listening to people for 30 years tell me that hyperinflation and/or a massive stock collapse worse than 1929 are right around the corner. If I had listened to them I would be a lot poorer. If I had completely ignored them I’d be a lot richer. Instead I’m somewhere in-between! Somewhere ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I think it should be more along the lines of continuing to look at all weather investing such as the PP. While allowing for refinement and new info. I try to keep an open mind, and not to over-value my personal beliefs about inflation, interest rates, and the like. One of the truest things HB said w...

I would be interested to see the correlation between poverty level and the destructiveness of Covid. In Brazil the poverty rate is over 25% and it’s over 60% in India. In my state of Texas the media made a lot of the high “case” rate here but in reality those numbers were heavily skewed towards the...

Re: Dragon Portfolio

I actually just posted a Chris Cole interview above....first time running across him. Struck me as having a very Harry Browne type investment philosophy. Conversations with members here like Mathjak make me realize that many people really aren't able to see the last 40 years of equity outperformanc...
