Re: What have we learned over last 10 years?

You've been using the PP for 17 years?? Wow, there is a story there if you want to tell it? 17 years ago there were not a lot of people on that bandwagon. That's the kind of long view I hope to have about 12 years from now. It's a refreshing perspective, compared to loading up on angst over the per...

Re: What have we learned over last 10 years?

Agree, you can vary your allocations but after that you have to stick to it to make it work. The funny thing is, I have 17 years PP experience (I have a 20 % Gold allocation) and I did my calculations this weekend (I do that quarterly). And beside the 13 % yield Year to Day, really not normal !, the...

Re: European ETF Alternatives

And whats the intent of the regulations To protect the customer. The products of the EFT provider should be in the language of the buyer of the EFT. So if you live in Norway the EFT product information should be in Norwegian. I doubt if Vanguard knows where Norway is. So it is stupid antique regula...

Re: How to convince someone to use HB-PP

Now, my advice is to be made to my brothers, not for my neighbors. I think I should spread the word inside the family. Am I right? Never this happened to you? Several years ago I gave copies of "Fail Safe Investing" to both of my brothers and also my brother-in-law. The last time I checked, none of...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

Of course it will, the government has pumped billions into the economy. That money will also go out again, so inflation and thus the cash yield rates will increase. It may be next year or over 10 years but it will happen. And when inflation is rising it is very hard to control it so it may be quite ...

Yep Dutch, Sorry. no CAGR. I used this just as an benchmark against my own portfolio (10% cash, 20 % gold, 30 % LT Bonds, 40 % Equities // average yield 6,4 % so slightly better). I dont have inflation figures but I think you can google them. My guess is around 2% for this period. So real return wil...

Also Dutch.

De Giro: cheap but very simpel functionality
Binck: not so cheap but very friendly interface
Lynx: the best functionality (far too much) and cheap but lousy user-interface (for PP people, is meant for treaders.).

Re: Nobody believes in the Permanent Portfolio

Back to topic ? No, we are not wrong, because we believe in passive, low-expense-ratio, well-diversified investing. In fact, our investing is actually better diversified than the typical stock/bond portfolio, because we also hold a valuable commodity (gold) which is uncorrelated with stocks/bonds. Y...

Re: Question for original forum members

I have learned about the Permant Portfolio in 2002. I dont know when I discovered this forum In 2002 I had about 70 % equities allocations so I moved to a modified PP [40% stocks, 20% gold, 30% LTT, 10% cash $/€ mixed]. With an average yield over 15 years of 6,1 % I have no reason to change the stra...

Re: PP Performance for 2016

It sounds like Gerard is holding a USD PP, and that some of the return this past year was the dollar increasing against the euro. That worked out well this year, but you've taken on some currency risk that may not be necessary. The gold component is enough currency risk, since its price in local cu...

Re: Is The Big Crash Coming?

A crash? Give me a break you Chicken Littles. A crash is when you lose almost 30% in a day aka October 19 ,1987. That's probably gonna happen if Trump wins the election. That I remember; I started investing on October 12, 1987 with $ 10.000,- gift from my mother. I lost $ 3000 that day and i phoned...

Thanks, I saw it too.
Did you analyse the difference with iShares Euro Government Bond 15-30yr UCITS ETF (IBGJ).
The duration seems longer (better ?!) but the yield is lower ?
