Re: Why I'm Moving Back To 90% PP / 10% VP
Glad to have beaten the market over 6 weeks? If you play long enough, the house always wins. I thought I was an investing genius in 2007. I was up 73%. Then 2008 came along and I was down over 50%. I no longer attempt to "beat the market" which as far as I'm concerned is equivalent to tryi...

Re: AAII Article on PP
Nice that the AAII published the PP article. The AAII has a dizzying assortment of investment strategies. They brag about their "shadow stocks" portfolio producing terrific returns. What they don't say is how it lost over 50% (-50.8%) in 2008. Very few investors would have had what it take...

My entire IRA is invested in the PP, though, admittedly, today is a bad day for it, but then again it looks like most investing strategies will be down today.

Re: Why are there so few doctors?
Do want a Doctor who got a C in Biology? Just remember, half of all doctors graduated below the average class rating. Do you want to be treated by a below average doctor? 50% probability you will. Because its not a free market where the customer is king, we don't have very good or effective sys...

I've been investing since 1982 and I'm still nowhere close to where I want to be as a "successful investor." Jack Bogle writes of an investor of modest means, never earning more than $25k a year, who began investing in 1974 with $500 here and there, who kept accumulating stocks and funds ...

Speaking of Canada, too bad about that pipeline. Rejected for "insufficient time to review the plans." Yet Health Care Reform gets passed even though nobody who voted for it actually read the complete bill. Funniest line of the year, "We must pass it so we can know what's in it."...

We entered the war in 1941 due to a direct attack by Japan, who was an axis partner of Germany. Japan attacks us, that means we are at war with Germany too. Just remember, we directly provoked the Japanese to attack us by cutting off their energy supplies in retaliation for their invasion of Manchu...

If it wasn't for emotions, we'd all be multi-millionaires. Buying high and selling low is no joke and is all too common, I bet. William Bernstein states that it takes years to train oneself into being a successful investor. I don't doubt it. 10 years on average. I've been investing since 1982 and I...

It's so easy for us who are so far removed from the tenor of that time to pass judgment. Who among us can feel the intense hatred many Americans had for the Japanese people at that time-the stories of death marches and unspeakable torture and the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor and the mocking, provoca...

Hitler had it all laid out in Mein Kampf. I find it incredible that a majority of Germans would vote for him. Actually, they didn't. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler#Rise_to_power In the "World At War", I remember them saying that more people voted "Nazi" than other choices.

When I call for an appt. quite often the choice is between a nurse/practitioner/medical assistant in a day or two or the MD in 3 weeks or so. I always choose the former-not only to speed up the appt. but because in my experience the former gives me a more satisfactory experience-they communicate bet...

Without the U.S. getting involved in either world war, they would have remained regional conflicts. Especially in WWII, Germany would have broken itself fighting the Soviet Union whether we got involved or not. I would say that both Wilson and FDR were pretty incompetent wartime Presidents. I do...

Given your pacifistic train of thought, we might all be speaking German right now; that is to say, those of us who would be left and deemed worthy to live after the "selections". Sometimes one just needs to get out there and do what needs to be done. Without the U.S. getting involved in e...

Let's not forget about the unbelievably high malpractice insurance premiums. I don't blame anyone for not seeking an MD degree, what with high student loans and malpractice premiums. If I was to do it all over again, I would study to become an optometrist-well-respected, high demand, decent pay, lim...
