Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

You should try living in Australia..... Received a letter from the police that my 1887 lever action shotgun in now "a weapon of mass destruction". It's been classified in with machine guns and the letter states if I sell this old shotgun, I will NEVER be able to purchase a replacement. The nice old...

Re: Optimal Diet

we don't purposely eat lean cuts of meat, for example, and shoot for good marbling and things like chicken thighs vs. breasts. Now that I've figured out how to consistently cook breast of chicken to a texture I like*, I prefer it over thighs. Plus, you can add sauces (or whatever) to it. I feel lik...

Re: Optimal Diet

I had been pushing more fat and (relatively) less protein over the last few years. Mark is suggesting that was a mistake. As the (other) Mark Rippetoe would quickly tell me. Well, it all depends on the specifics. If you're eating 4000 calories a day, and 2000 of them are coming from 500g of protein...

The great thing about the PP concept is that if you think you can do better than the 4X25% portfolio, you can implement a Variable Portfolio.
Bingo. The PP + VP suits my psychology.

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

Do you guys really give a shit either way, or are you just having fun arguing? We're at the point where anyone who wants to get vaccinated can, and anyone who doesn't has had the time and information to make their choice. Whichever side of the fence you're on, it would seem that both sides should ag...

Mathjak is completely convinced that the growth trends of the last 40 years will remain intact in the coming decades...and equities will continue to outperform. I think there is plenty of data to suggest that is simply not the case. The population growth trends of the last 100 years, complete disre...

Re: Optimal Diet

Very interesting. Thank you for telling about this. I should give it a try. I certainly need to lose a few pounds, and the things I've tried haven't worked. If your goal is to lose weight, nothing works better than not eating. You can "not eat" for as long as you have excess weight. A day, a half a...

Re: Where do you guys think Tim Pool moved?

On the latest Tim Pool IRL show (#262), the guest John Tamny happened to mention that Tim lives in rural Maryland. I was about to ask if you were sure, because know I've heard him mention to guests that where they were was a "constitutional carry" state, which Maryland is not. West Virginia is. But...

When I said "people" I thought it was understood that I was referring to the "people" in this forum. If you would have said "How many of you/you all/y'all/my esteemed forumites" instead of "How many...

Ivor Cummins videos do the same thing, but you don't have to sign up for anything. He's also put out a whitepaper on the topic - you can download from his website. I don't see it, Sophie, do you have a link? Here it is. Buried in the blog section. https://thefatemperor.com/science-and-data-based-2-...

To put it in Democrat-terms, it's when evil landowners like Donald Trump pretend their property is worth less so that they can pay fewer taxes.

Re: Housing prices

Even better than a mortgage: intrafamily loans. No fees, no application process, and way better interest rates for both borrower and lender. You just need to draw up a document spelling out loan terms, as per IRS rules, and you can regard them as mortgages for income tax purposes. The IRS prescribe...

Some quick Google-Fu leads me to believe that people are bullish on real estate across the Western world. BTW whatchamacallit, you forgot to mention that in the US, we mostly utilize fixed-rate mortgages, whereas in most other countries (IIRC) they use adjustable-rate mortgages. I doubt that would c...

I am curious if anyone knows -- pug mentioned the fact if you stop for a few weeks for whatever reason, you lose a lot of the gains you had from lifting. I think "trust fund babies" are more the result of bad parenting than having a trust fund.
It's hard to know what happens once significant money enters the picture.
I didn't mean to imply there would be significant money involved ;D

I suspect people might get worried about "oversaving" in cases where they don't like what they have to do to make the money. If you hate your job, it would make sense to not work at it a second longer than necessary, and therefore figuring out how much is 'necessary' is important. I think a better s...

Good call, but no it is a nod to the original Rocinante by Cervantes. A knight errant needs an appropriate steed.
Although it was an excellent choice by The Expanse.
