Re: 2 months old PP, down -3%.

Sold got rid of my permanent portfolio today. overall i lost almost 7% in total (currency loss included) in less than three months. i bought all the assets at once as recommended so naturally i lost pretty hard. as someone who is EXTREMELY frugal (90% investment rate) this was very painful to me. It...

Re: 2 months old PP, down -3%.

Just sold my entire gold portion.
bought a hefty dose of ZGLD for 1580$ a couple of month ago.
Sold all of it for 1277$ now.

Sorry, this sh*t is not for me, I'd rather bet on soccer and at least have some fun losing :)

2 months old PP, down -3%.

I really have to let some steam out. US dollar weakened vs my local currency at a rate of 1% since I started the PP. Gold - down 14% since purchased. I bought ZGLD so I paid with USD. Stocks - 15% of my portion is VT. Up nearly 1.5% since I purchased but weak USD kills it.             10% of my port...

Please explain the accumulation phase.

I started my PP "trial" and invested 25k all at once.  Gold then crashed 15% and I'm still in the red zone. I have another investable sum of 75k  in my checking account, slowly eroded by inflation. I know its crazy but I simply can't bring myself to put it all in, the PP seems way too dang...

100% ACWV, this is what I'm considering.

Should be 50% PP, 50% ACWV.

Weakening dollar is hurting my PP - How should I hedge against it?

I started a new PP on april 1st. It is 60%-40%  domestic/international and is denominated both in ILS (domestic) and international (USD) currencies. It looks like this: Stocks - VT (15%) - USD             Israeli stock market ETF - 10% - ILS Gold - ZGLD US (22%) - USD           IAU (3%) - USD Bonds ...

Re: A wary, weary West is leaving Syria in the butchers’ hands

More Arabs were killed 2012 alone by Assad than in the entire 120 years old Arab-Zionist conflict. Yet the world still screams "boycott Israel" as the Syrians are butchered...  I hope some day an Arab enemy country will have the decency to do things like these for my countrymen. http://edi...

Re: The Rout Continues

I would just wait until a rebalancing band is hit. All the assets in the portfolio had been rising for some time, one was destined to break eventually. If someone is buying gold for speculation, I'd wait until you see the headlines start to taper off in the news if you feel strongly about it. But r...

Sell all gold and return later?

I feel so stupid. I started the PP in the worst possible time, following the advice of buying all assets at once. Bought gold at 1600$. Bought VT which is moving sideways. All assets except cash are down, with gold leading the way and breaking support levels on a daily basis. The stock portion (VT) ...

Finally set up my PP today, please critique

Finally took action today and invested around 20% of my wealth according to the PP strategy. I'm 28 and this is the first time I actually invest, so this is exciting for me. I tried to find a good, simple way of implementing the strategy as a citizen of a small country. After thorough research I've ...

Re: Is the price of gold affected mainly by US inflation?

Thank you all very much for your insights, I really appreciate it and learn alot from it. Gosso, that post is pure GOLD (no pun intended). Your suggestion is extremely interesting to me as an Israeli investor. The question is if it is not "heretic" in terms of over-tinkering with the 25x4 ...

Is the price of gold affected mainly by US inflation?

During the early eighties the inflation in my country (Israel) was raging and it hit about 400% in 1985. However, the world spot price of gold remained rather calm during that year compared to the gains of the seventies. I realize that Israel's economy is very small and hardly affects the world pric...

Does buying US stock funds mean I MUST also buy US treasuries?

I don't live in the US but I wish to diversify my stock portion (25%), so that 15% will be held in local stock etf (denominated in local currency) and the other 10% held as shares of VTI (denominated in USD). Gold will be held in a US based gold fund (denominated in USD). LT Bonds and cash are to be...

You're right, I apologize The Jerusalem of Gold series produced by the Israeli Mint (israelmint.com) has some stunningly beautiful coins but unfortunately they are not "true" bullion coins. http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/15090/15268487_2.jpg First, the premium is 20% above spot, which...

How important is it for gold ETF to be denominated in my local currency?

I'm having trouble with the gold portion of the portfolio. I would really like to buy physical gold but this is very hard to do in my country due to the high VAT (17%) on imported coins. I can buy bullion coins from shady local dealers but the premium is around 10% over spot!  So I think that as a s...

Still hesitant about the PP

The current absurd economic environment highlighted by negative real interest rates suggests that if you save your money (CD's, money market funds, etc),  you will generally lose purchasing power over time, unless you invest in volatile assets. The problem is that all volatile assets, including thos...

Shouldn't I just wait until interest rates rise before purchasing LT bonds?

I know that trying to time the market is inadvisable, but in my country there are huge expectations for interest rates to rise in the coming spring. This makes buying my country's long term fixed interest governmental bonds very unappealing. Shouldn't I just wait until interest rates go up before bu...

Re: Very confused about domestic/international stock allocation

Alright, thanks for clearing this up for me. I was confused after reading that bonds and cash should be held in domestic currency. What about gold? I have the option to buy an Israeli gold ETF which tracks the price of gold set in the london AM fix. It is denominated in Sheqels. Should I for example...
