Re: If you were President...

Here is a topic for discussion. If you were President/Dictator for a day and could pass one piece of legislation to significantly change the country for what you believe is the better, what would that legislation be? I will go first. Mine would be legislation to alert people on how much they are pa...

Re: The GOLD scream room

According to Quicken, my gold is down 0.6% for trailing 12 months; down 6.2% YTD I rebalanced some into Gold in May of this year, which really hurt -- most expensive Gold I've bought to date! [Edit / Note: my overall retirement allocation to Gold targets ~15%; currently closer to 12%. Yeah, performa...

Re: Why the "Total Stock Market" isn't anything of the sort

I do 34% VOO (S&P 500) and then 66% VXF (Extended Market Index). That gives me almost an equal weight of large, mid and small using Morningstar's ETF size tool. That seems like a nice, elegant approach. Do you have international as well or just use the U.S. funds? I do not use any international sto...

And then LTT is goes up a we tad today (2.3% for Vanguards LTT Mutual Fund)

Bonds have nowhere to go but down?

Being a Friday, I get to appreciate the bounce in my LTT allocation for at LEAST the weekend. :)

Sold down to 5% today.
I won’t bitch about it anymore now.
Liberating!
Even if a gold bull market begins today? :)

But, good that you've got your allocation to something that makes you comfortable.

I guess just a dream as well but I want to hold out to see if there is a juicy fixed rate Nov 1st.

Not likely to be one but I can dream.
With "juicy" defined as > 0. :)

At least, that is one reason I'm waiting to put in a little more.

I figure my (state) college was paid about 1/3 by parents, 1/3 by my working, and 1/3 by loans and the occasional grant or scholarship. Yesterday I went to a park about 4 miles from my house. It has two softball fields, basketball court, field house, skate park, kids things to play on, picnic area, water thing, other things. I've been playing softball on the two softball fields since 1982. Yesterday they had three bands plays for f...

Re: 25% of Americans aged 40-49 are millionaires

That number is surprisingly small considering it includes projected Social Security payments. Lifetime average for a single person is 570,000. For a couple, 1,113,000. So if you are going to include SS you could say that the average person is more than halfway there at birth and the average couple ...

Re: Want to lose weight & treatment for diabetes

Dumbbells vs barbells: A barbell is a fixed long single bar. It makes it easier to stabilize and focus on the main muscle you’re using. Which can be a bad thing for fitness, since with a dumbbell, you lack the inherent stabilization the bar provides and must recruit different accessory muscles to p...

<snip> No circuit training. It's always been difficult to keep my heart rate up as my normal heart rate is in the 40s to low 50s range when resting. This is one thing I found at the Starting Strength web site: "You can do strength training with dumb bells to a certain extant , however they are an u...

I found this interesting -- https://youtu.be/SjgG0xW8y3A I think Sherman should have been included And, carriers vs specifically Essex. Replace the Essex's with Yorktowns, and, not that much difference (and probably get a few more of them). Not that the Essex's weren't excellent ships and better tha...

I've been doing 16/8 IF (roughly, some variation) as per the chart as part of my 2021 New years resolution. Unintentionally built up to it by stopping after dinner snacking last Nov (which is basically 12/12 IF) Not doing Keto, but I have increased protein / fat and limit simple carbs (as I'm eating...

I guess there's just not as much to discuss now that adults are running the country again. So, i think we're close politically, but, this is part of my concern here is making derogatorily statements about the other side. And then, the ball gets picked up from both sides and the thread runs with it
