Re: Commodity Stocks Getting Creamed

Commodities really spiked last, what, 6+ months? I’m sure lots of chasing returns Then, as folks say, market expectations going south Is more production coming online than expected? That Norway to Poland gas pipeline opened a couple months early Did demand decrease because of the high prices? These ...

Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?

I’ve stuck with ~50% stocks while incorporating LTT and Gold

Definitely would be better off financially if I had stuck with more the 65/35 ish I back before (TSM/SCV/INTL;TBM)

But, slept a lot better

So, I figure it worked out ok and I learned a thing or two

Re: Gold will rise when Fed stops raising interest rates?

Gold is up today! (20220916)

I predict it won’t go down for at least two day

Maybe more, but hard to project out that far

9/13 -- why I try not to figure out the market

9/13: August inflation higher than expected

Results:

TIPS funds down

LTT up

Huh?

Although only minimally -- just a rounding error vs stocks down 4%

What makes you guys think any of the news on this is accurate? So much fake news everywhere, and well, Pravda. I’m not sure if you’re referring to the Russians falling back or the media thing. If it’s the fallback, we can’t know for sure. Have to wait and see. Even the market reacted to it today — ...

Halfway to Nowhere: 2022 Mid-Year Portfolio Rankings Be sure to take a look at the "stock sectors" chart in the article and think about what the resulting mix woul...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

Re lack of “total life cycle analysis” — isn’t that the free market way? And getting others to pay for external impacts? Yeah, said a little tongue in cheek, but, am I wrong? Do we stop using petroleum based products until everyone can agree on the total life cycle costs and how to make the users of...

Nothing special. I just plug in a USB mouse with my macs. If you're talking about a trackpad...its been a couple years since my daughter killed my mac air. But that thing worked like a dream...is right click tap with two fingers? <snip> Yes, two finger And, there are customizations I believe

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

France went all in on nukes a few decades ago, which was a good geopolitical bet during a time when solar and wind weren't yet economically practical. And even today, nukes are great in the same way fossil fuels remain great: they have an absurdly high power to weight ratio. That's why both of them...

Re: Anybody got Beef with the Dispatch, Jonah Goldberg, David French etc.

The neocons' animating philosophy has been to remake the world a country at a time, into nations friendly to the US, by whatever means necessary. As you can tell, I have no use for them, and I don't care if I agree with all of their other positions. Ok, I Shrugged gets his wish and neoconservatism ...

Re: Session chat app

It’s a fork of Signal, and they promoted the fact that you don’t need a phone number to sign up. Same deal with the Wire app, which I think I learned about through a former member here (now banned). With Session, you don’t need an email address either, but extra privacy is not worth it, obviously, ...

Actually buying my first ever mac laptop. Anything I should be aware of as a decades long Windows user (minus iPhones and iPads)? You'll find the keyboard utterly deficient. Maybe the biggest problem is the lack of a delete key. They have one labeled delete, but it's actually backspace, and there's...

I don't know if there is a way around it, but I hate having to click through all the file folders to get somewhere. 1) Term limits - eg Biden has worked out dozens of ways to conceal bribes over decades as a senator. If you churn politicians, that breaks up the trust they could build over time with bribers "donors and lobbyists" 2) Ranked-choice voting - As expected, blocked by DeSantis and Newsom. If your 1st c...

Oh, I am FAR from any expert on this. My stock allocations in retirement accounts have tending to be anywhere from 50% US Large / 25% US Small/Mid ; 25% INTL to around 50/35/15 or some such I'm pretty sure 100% US Large (TSM / SP500) did better this century vs such a split, but, if I ever went 100% ...

FWIW, my retirement allocation is also about 50% stocks, GB inspired So, I think overall looks fine I'd probably avoid international (Gold kinda provides some of that diversification) And, I'm Meh on TIPS. No cash, high on stocks, low on duration -- I'd keep bonds focused on the bond role in the por...

Re: Bluff Called???

What I’d really love to see (lots of assumptions I’m making so let’s get that out of the way)…is for the Hillary case to be restarted, the Trump case to go forward and they both get a nice public day in court and let the jury do what juries do. I don’t really care guilty or not, but the principle o...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?

I have to assume that high-yield savings account interest rates will increase again soon to catch up with T-Bills. I'd hope so, but, they seem to be going up slower than I expected (including CDs, although I've only checked those rates at Ally) 1.6% at Ally for Savings; 2.14% for 4-Week T-Bill. Not...
