Buy In October: A Strategy Worth More Than 20% A Year For 10 Years

http://seekingalpha.com/article/921611-buy-in-october-a-strategy-worth-more-than-20-a-year-for-10-years?source=msn Saw this article today and wanted to get some feedback whether anyone here thinks it can work and if someone can do additional back testing? I joined the PP forum about 2 months ago and...

Re: Pimco Total Return as LT Bond holding

MT: Thanks!  That's a great suggestion with Pimco and that allows me to hold 3 of the 4 parts of PP in my 401K.  I'm starting to build up my IAU holding in an IRA account but was intrigued in holding some gold coins.  Will it be more expensive to hold physical gold then IAU?  How about holding 30% i...

Pimco Total Return as LT Bond holding

I have the following three bond choices in my 401K: Pimco Total Return, Thornburg Limited Term Income and Franklin Strategic Income.  I noticed that the Pimco fund tends to go up when the market goes down but I can't seem to get enough information to identify what bond sector it fits in.  I know it'...

Does it make sense to hold VWO for Int'l portion?

Thoughts on holding 5% of VWO with the remaining 20% to S&P 500 index?  As opposed to VEU or any other general Int'l index fund.

Would a PP makes sense if you're retired and don't need to live off the funds from the PP?

Re: Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

In my 401K account, I have an option for the SSGA S&P index fund (ER .65%) as well as a SSGA Russell Small Cap Index (ER .70%).  The ER on these index funds just kills me and I've always had my money invested in couple of actively managed funds that have performed well as compared to the index's...

Re: Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

Thanks for the info.  Does it make sense to hold a small % (~ 5%) in REITS and natural resource ETF's for PP?  I had studied the Ivy portfolio previously and that was a part of their holdings.

I currently own shares of TIP, would that be acceptable to keep as part of PP?

Re: Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

Just started implementing PP strategy.  Thanks for the feedback.

Instead of plunking a huge amount of $ into TLT and IAU at one time, wouldn't it make sense to buy on dips or dollar avg cost into each investment?

Re: Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

My 401K provider is an insurance company and the 3% return is through a stable value fund.  I currently have my 401K allocated to a small cap value, mid cap value and Int'l value funds which seem to have the best LT performance.  They offer a S&P Index fund but on a 5 yr return basis, the averag...

Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

Hello.  I've been reading about the PP for about 6 months now and think I'm ready to make the jump starting with my 401-K.  The bond offerings are Pimco Total Return, Franklin Strategic Income and Thornburg Limited Term Income.  They also offer a cash holding that returns a guaranteed 3%.  Of these ...
