Re: tax-loss harvesting question
tax loss harvesting is something that you have to decide for yourself, I did it in a taxable account and replaced it with a close to identical holding so I still have my position in long term bonds. Sure they could go lower and in that case I plan on doing another tax loss harvest by selling what I ...

Re: Alright who’s hitting rebalancing bands?
I just sold all my TLT for tax loss harvesting purposes and bought VGLT as replacement I will revisit after 30 days and if VGLT goes down I will harvest that loss as well and replace with TLT

Basically you can level the field or just put money into cash until it becomes 35% of total and then re balance or what ever re balance band you use some use 30%.

Re: 2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance
I follow it and have been for a long time. The last time I re balanced was Dec 4 2015 I normally re balance when I get very close to the 15/35 band. Since I re balanced my portfolio it has increased just over 15% this year it is down less then 1% from the beginning of the year. At present I am aroun...

Re: Spreadsheets to Track PP
Steve, Do you have long term data showing the performance over decade or more. If so can you share exactly what you used and how you obtained the data. You can go to https://www.etfreplay.com/combine.aspx and play around comparing different portfolios I shared what I could to help the group without...

Re: Out of balance
Way I look at it I would gladly by long term bonds to re balance , If interest rates keep rising and the value goes down I would just keep tax loss harvesting, No one can predict the future and things do not always go as expected. If the value keeps going down until it once again hit the lower re ba...

Re: Out of balance
If my portfolio were out of balance I would buy bonds in a heartbeat! I remember some years back when everyone was talking about interest rate hikes and how bonds were going down. I taxed loss harvested a bond position that I had, I sold tlt and immediately replaced it with the 50/50 split of edv an...

Re: Where and how do you purchase physical gold?
In my area I found a local dealer that is competitive, I agree not all are, I once walked out of a place when a dealer would not meet the price he quoted over the phone.ochotona wrote:Most local dealers won't be competitive. You need to get comfortable with using insured shipping.

Re: Where and how do you purchase physical gold?
I like to purchase from local dealer where I pay with a personal check and can walk out with gold in hand. Maybe not walk out the same day as purchase but soon after.

Re: Any downside to bars?
I enjoy owning bars, and coins. The bars I have are Pamp Swiss, and they are beautiful, I also have a collection of Eagles and Buffalo coins. I do not see a downside to owning any gold. If the price goes down it goes down for all and that would not bother me either. In the past I sold online gold fo...

Re: Do you insure your Gold?
And also, Steve, do you have to update things with major changes in the price of gold or you just tell them how many oz coins you have? I insure my safe deposit box for a set amount for a set price. I do not have to tell them what is in the safe deposit box. If there is a bank robbery where the box...

Re: Any downside to bars?
I like bars and coins and have both, I do not see much of a downside. You can keep them in a safe deposit box and get insurance. If you get bars from a reputable dealer it should not be a problem.

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion
Same here. As much as I detest what Sprott has done to Gold Trust I see no other option to maintain paper gold under favorable US capital gain taxation rules. My understanding is that shifting to GLD or IAU exposes to clearly spelled out 28% collectible tax rate, besides the ETF papers not being ba...
