Re: Is the PP designed to accomodate something unique in history - U.S. bankruptcy
Good points by all and i enjoy the spirited debate by the frequent contributors to this site. I'm especially curious how Harry Browne would hypothetically look at the world today through libertarian and Austrian eyes and how he may or may not have altered the PP to deal with today's reality. It is ...

Re: Is the PP designed to accomodate something unique in history - U.S. bankruptcy
Be careful if some of you are prejudice against Schiff. First, Schiff is a die hard Austrian guy (as Harry Browne was as well - HB whole economics background and thus one could argue the PP we have here, is based on Austrian economics as a building block). HB and Peter Schiff knew each other, appare...

Just in case one wants to know how this side of the world sees big gold price drop on Friday. My wife practically dragged me to the jewlery shop today in Shanghai. Re: What to do if WAR starts with North Korea?
I'm sorry but i do not trust at all, nada, 0% our intelligence on north korea. We've heard numerous contradictions already this week on north korea s capabilities. We simply do not know and scary to think Dennis Rodman is the only American to get close enough to Lil' Kim to have a conversation. I,m ...

Re: 80 Years Ago Today (or why geo-diversification)
If someone posted that in public today it would be riddled with holes from bullets peppering it. It is truly fascinating to talk to my great uncle, who is 105 yrs old and still pretty sharp, about the great depression. He said that at that time there was a fairly patriotic vibe about the public and ...

k shartle, i think your assessment is correct or has a high degree of probability. We are living in unchartered waters right now, economically, geopolitically. We are not witnessing Keynesian economics - i think he is turning in his grave when people now are pasting his name on the current economic ...

Tocqueville seems to be one of the better ones that i've researched and i've parked some money there recently. it includes both major and junior miners as well as even holding about 8-9% in physical gold. they have their own research team that visits mines, etc.Although mining stocks are getting ham...

Re: An Observation
I know it means very little in the overall scheme of things but it brings me to my observation which is that after watching it for three years I think the PP does a lot better with bad economic news that it does with good. I concur. The PP has two flight-to-safety assets and only one prosperity ass...

Re: Quality currencies?
If you were forced to diversify your cash holdings from USD, which currencies you would choose? Also, what is your opinion about pegged currencies? For example, many seem to consider HKD a solid currency which happens to be pegged to USD. Maybe owning HKD as part of the cash holdings might be usefu...

Re: Implementing GLOBAL PP
i would second the opinion here that it would be prudent to consider multiple, maybe 2 but not more than 3 versions of PP with perhaps US, Europe and Asia blend. I think these could be set up using 2 or 3 currency bases - USD, Euro/Swiss and perhaps a Singapore dollar or even Hong Kong dollar and RM...

Gosh, everything to me screams gold still has a long ways to go upward ,especially as things looking dicey for the USD. Especially if the rest of your portfolio is USD. But again, who knows what will happen, so best to at least have around 20-25% in gold

globalcash, i'm by no means an expert, but i have contemplated some of the same ideas as you. i have lived in Hong Kong, Singapore and currently Shanghai- total for 20 of past 25 yrs. in these locales. Overall, i can say that SGP might offer a bit longer term safer place to have gold storage than HK...

don't worry. bears will have their day, and likely soon. This market has so many things likely to pull it down in the next 3- 6 months.

There are plenty of historical data and charts showing golds price, but this is the first time i've seen it from this perspective.
What to make of it in your opinion ?

pkg man and mcclary, thanks for your input. i need to think this thru again from the standpoint that for me, in my situation and goals, that the PP is in fact more risky than just siiting on some ST treasuries, gold and some foreign currency and just take out stocks and LT bonds altogether - i don't ...
