Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

What do you guys think of the latest Trump tweet that's not only made the news but also our weekly medical staff meeting, for whatever reason. I couldn't find the actual text of the tweet, only the wide-ranging condemnation of it, but I finally managed to grab it from his twitter feed: Equal justice...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

And it's up 20% since I rebalanced. And my GB is up over 4%. I was a bit terrified to be buying such a crazy amount of SCV at the time. It always goes against the grain to buy low and sell high - almost by definition it's the opposite of what everyone else is doing, and thus what every bone in your ...

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

You know, it would be kind of fun to use the Wayback Machine to pick a random month during Trump's presidency and do an exhaustive review of the highly-read mainstream media articles, classifying them according to the type of propaganda technique used and providing a score for each news outlet. I wo...

Re: Investing Twice Monthly Into PP

With M1 Finance I just tell them to buy $1000 of my Permanent Portfolio and it will buy enough to make all 4 ETFs at 25%. So if between my last paycheck and my upcoming paycheck let's say stocks dropped to 22% and gold went up to 28%, my next $1000 purchase would be divided in order to make them al...

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

Doodle, you have to keep in mind that your image of Trump's leadership comes through an extremely biased media lens. Once you are on the alert for this, you'll see all kinds of dirty tricks, e.g. taking innocuous statements and spinning them in an obviously biased article. My favorite is the one whe...

Re: Investing Twice Monthly Into PP

Can you auto-invest into ETFs? I thought you could only do that into mutual funds. If you can set up auto-investment and there's no transaction costs, I say have at it. I had done simulations quite a long time ago, and that method of contributions performs the best - ignoring taxes. Something like a...

Re: Fidelity error in mutual fund purchase price?

I sent a secure message. No answer yet. Although, I figured out the problem: for some reason, my HSA was set to "average cost" accounting instead of "actual cost". There were two lots with the same share purchase price. Once I fixed this, the purchase prices changed and that lot now matches what was...

Re: I'm shocked, shocked! that most Americans don't want the cities burned to the ground

Agree with Kriegspiel - I've been noticing more and more bias in previously neutral news organizations - not just Reuters but also AP. Here's an article on how reduced law enforcement impacts minority neighborhoods. It is rather sad that the people protesting (as opposed to rioting) have been duped ...

Re: Fidelity error in mutual fund purchase price?

No, because then the date of purchase would be different. All were purchased on April 28. I also entered all three at about the same time, within a few minutes of each other.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Yes, I see, that is possibly a spike in new cases recently. You have to realize though, that new cases will also increase with more testing. In New York, that became so obvious that the governor stopped looking at new cases and focused on new hospitalizations, which is about the only measure that co...

Re: Lockdowns, where effective and where not

Mardi Gras in New Orleans? I can't imagine that a lot of nursing home residents were involved in that. I think the issue is that mild or asymptomatic cases get passed around in the crowds, and then they go home and infect older people who weren't at the party. Same thing is going to happen with the ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Are you and Kriegspiel looking at the same data? I don't see a recent spike in cases in the plot that Kriegspiel posted, either. Deaths tend to lag hospital admissions by a few weeks, since obviously dying of COVID can take a bit of time. Similarly, ICU cases can lag new cases. This lag can cause th...
