Re: Major Measels Outbreak Fearred in Washington State (anti-vaxxers)

A state alert that appeared in my inbox today, with some useful information: As of April 23, 2019, a total of 390 individuals with measles have been reported to the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) since October 2018. All but twelve of these individuals with measle...

Re: Tax accounting for physical metals

OK I think I understand what you're looking for: a sub-list of sale dates/amounts, amount left in the lot, cost basis, realized gains/losses in what year etc, sort of like what Fidelity and Vanguard provide for position holdings. Yes it would be a programming job if you do a lot of sales in differen...

Re: Oxycontin

This might have been one of the benefits of a national EHR system, if the Obama administration had done it right instead of royally screwing things up. LOL, aren't you in favor of some version of government run medicare for all? Why on earth would that not be yet another clusterf*ck? What are the c...

Re: Tax accounting for physical metals

When you posted this I thought it was for clients not for yourself. If it's only for yourself, why make it so complicated? It's just a spreadsheet with a listing of gold purchases in the order you made them. To decide on a lot to sell, you can look for the purchase with the maximum loss (if you want...

Re: Tax Loss Harvesting Support Group

It's easy to decide to take capital gains when you get to do it at the 0% rate, but things get trickier if you're subject to the 15% rate. What if in future you expect to have a window where you can take the gains at a 0% rate? You'd be missing out on that not to mention the power of tax deferral. I...

Re: Tax Loss Harvesting Support Group

It's an interesting idea. Not only do you avoid cap gains at potentially higher rates in future, but you set yourself up for useful tax loss harvesting by resetting the basis to a high level. If you're in a high tax bracket, that $3000 offset to ordinary income is well worth prepaying some tax. Just...

Re: Oxycontin

Who are these "medical professionals?" How, in this day and age of computerized-everything, does this kind of prescribing pattern go unnoticed? Who in their right mind spends $200,000 for a medical degree and then risks everything? Who are these peoples' professional peers, and why aren't they spea...

Re: bud split

I don't think it was Budd's feelings so much as the endless parade of posts that were some variation on the following: "<PP asset> is down today. This asset is worthless. The PP says you should hold this asset and I do because it told me to. So I hate the PP." It just wasn't helpful, except that I r...

Same here, and especially sorry that it had to be overlaid with a potentially avoidable financial issue.
