Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

Not going to do Covid 2 on this thread. Appreciate Krieg’s writing. The S men are factually incorrect, lying and/or totally deluded. All we’re doing here now is providing a platform for Russian or hard right American propaganda. I’m out. #NAFOfella Thanks for your posts, Kbg, and I agree 100 percent.

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

I'm not finding much to agree with, Kriegsspiel. The Ukrainians are clearly fighting like hell to repel the invasion, and the support from the U.S. and others is helping them to be much more successful than anyone predicted. Zelensky is obviously leading his country quite effectively in this war, de...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

It's incredibly sad on a human level as all wars are. However, other than 9/11 (from an American standpoint) I can't think of a more worthy war to support in recent times. Russian political culture is something else. I often wonder what it might become when A) Soviet era thugs and the populace dies...

Re: Anybody got Beef with the Dispatch, Jonah Goldberg, David French etc.

Another great article by David French....hoping that this election will signal the wane of the "malice theory" of politics. Overall I think it was a great election result - not so much about the feds (one way or the other) but that all those election denying govs and SOS in swing states are getting...

Gold rising in response to reduced inflation expectations.

But seriously, gold behavior is probably the least predictable of the four PP assets. A random walk, some might say.

Re: Do You Carry a Multitool?

A multitool is disallowed anywhere you can't bring a knife. Even the shortest of blades. Worldwide. Sucks. This is the best multitool (without a blade) that I have ever carried. But ... I still kept getting it confiscated in every random country and after buying it 3 or 4 times, I gave up. Now, I c...

Square? That may be how I come across here personality-wise but when it comes to personal appearance / clothes? I'm in the Casual Hall of Fame! Oh nuts, I wasn't awake yet, and somehow read "grandchild" and didn't read "19 year old."

Forget the Custodial account, put it directly in a Roth.

Re: $250 investment for a 19 year old?

Looks like a cool book O0 With such a small amount, $250, I would keep it simple. Either an S&P500 ETF in Fidelity — because you’re right about the $1000 minimum for Vanguard funds — or even a savings bond. A savings bond is not going to lose and might be better to watch for the next 12 months than...

Re: $250 investment for a 19 year old?

I would open a custodial account for the child, and purchase a total stock market fund or total world fund. Later, when the child has earned income, I'd deposit the balance into a Roth IRA account. Roth funds don't count against the child on a FAFSA. The child can earn income through a summer or par...

Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?

This is a fair criticism, but the error is expecting gold to save a portfolio just because it happened to do so many decades ago. No portfolio can be trusted, they will all fail us at some point. It's premature to count gold out, isn't it? Lots of analysts say that what is happening with gold right...

Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?

I’ve said it here a billion times. The ONLY thing that separates the PP from a traditional, passive portfolio is Gold. All others have some allocation to stocks, bonds and cash. Gold has proven once again its relationship to unexpected high inflation is putrid. PP followers hold Gold for this very ...
