Re: Other Peoples Money and High Frequency Bots

Leverage and algorithmic trading now prevail in the majority of retail trading. High-frequency and algorithmic trading have been approximated to account for 40-70% of US equity volume traded. Such strategies are primarily executed by institutions through advanced, automated platforms, frequently at...

Re: "US States Likely to Defy US Downgrade to Keep Top Credit Ratings"

What you say makes sense but it seems that a municipal default is quite rare? Perhaps, but a default of an entity like the United States government has never happened. It might be impossible in theory. I should clarify that the United States have defaulted before, but not when using a system of fia...

Re: "US States Likely to Defy US Downgrade to Keep Top Credit Ratings"

"Defy" I believe is the wrong word here; what they seem to be saying is that states will be keeping their pristine credit rating even as the federal government does not. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-states-likely-defy-us-163315923.html Does that really make a lot of sense, that the s...

Okay, I've determined that we've been under a distributed "Slow Loris" attack. Having deployed specific countermeasures to that, I should no longer need to be playing whack-a-mole with IP addresses.

No idea why anybody would want to shut down this forum, though.

Re: Forum availability

There have been a lot of robotic user registrations lately. 497 of 3,352 total accounts were registered in the past week. These accounts don't seem to be spamming the forum. The only effect seems to be that I'm getting a fair number of email bounces from registration confirmation emails. The email a...

Hi folks,

Sorry about the recent availability issues. It looks like we're receiving a DOS attack from Singapore, Russia, and Vietnam. I've blocked a bunch of IP addresses.

Well if nothing else, I am thankful Trump has inspired me to read Bastiat. ;D <snip> There is no country in the world where the law is kept more within its proper domain: the protection of every person's liberty and property. As a consequence of this, there appears to be no country in the world whe...

Re: Yet more (but not unexpected) amateur hour from Trump and his nothing but the best team!

Doesn’t anyone think that Jeffrey Goldberg “spilling the beans”, perhaps to get a big story for the Trump haters, is a national security issue, possibly helping the enemy? I do agree that Waltz inadvertently (?) adding him to the chat was a huge error. I missed this before. I think he was performin...

There wasn't anything (like quoting) to make it clear who was saying what. I've heard it many times here that it's up to the speaker/writer to make sure that his meaning is clear, rather than leaving it up to the listener/reader to figure it out.
