Well... Sort of. There was nothing that guaranteed that the dollar would always be linked to gold going forward.

There wasn't anything (like quoting) to make it clear who was saying what. I've heard it many times here that it's up to the speaker/writer to make sure that his meaning is clear, rather than leaving it up to the listener/reader to figure it out.
