Vinny, this is uncomfortably close to doxxing. We don't need to be investigating each other.

Re: Harry Dent: ‘Crash of a Lifetime’ Coming in 2024

As I wrote, global birth rates are dropping, but global population continues to rise, and that's what matters. More people means more demand, which is inflationary. The fact that the rate of "more people" growth itself is falling only means that this inflationary pressure is less inflatio...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Your B’head initialism of the day: NMI = No Middle Initial. Yes, there’s an initialism for no initial! An older gentleman I know joined the Army way back when, and filled out D (IO) in the middle name blank, meaning D (initial only). Of course the Army considered his middle name to be Dio for the e...

According to the National Safety Council, in 1950 for every 100 million miles driven you could expect 7.59 deaths. In 2022 that number is 1.33 deaths. source

Re: The GOLD scream room

I appreciate you pointing that out! Vinny's question and your response raise the interesting question of what a Bitcoin actually is. They are tokens that allow you to transact on the system. If you have no tokens, you cannot pay miners to process your transaction, and you have no tokens to send to ...

Isn’t it, like, decentralized and stuff? That’s why when a teacher raped a student in Beijing, they put it on the blockchain so it could never be erased. I don’t know. What happens when some government (correctly?) deems mining Bitcoin to be defamatory because it involves disseminating information ...

Re: US Citizen / Military Vet detained in ICE raid

Where this gets interesting is those members of SCOTUS and members of Congress (mostly among the far right Republicans) that consider themselves "originalists" and treat the Constitution like a sacred near-biblical document that should be interpreted very literally and with what the frame...

Re: The GOLD scream room

For BTC to exist, the network that maintains the ownership record must exist. The network consists of a high powered network of computers capable of mining new blocks. There is a lot of hardware, physical real estate and electrical power tied up in that. There’s a fair bit of hardware required to g...

Re: The GOLD scream room

All the Bitcoin in the world could fit on a thumb drive. Sort of. A thumb drive is sufficient to store the private keys to a BTC wallet address. However, BTC isn't actually a real digital object. The BTC blockchain records ownership of BTC (like your County Clerk records real property ownership/dee...

Re: The GOLD scream room

How big is the world's limited supply of Bitcoin? The question would be what size hard drive is necessary to hold it? I know that there is a lot of computing power and electricity used in creating them. But I'm so ignorant of them that I don't know if there is actually some type of file storage for...

Re: Birthright citizenship

Good points all, I stand corrected! It was a good question. I have re-framed it in my mind into a variant though - Has it proven to be a better strategy historically for a conquering power to a) subjugate the conquered into a subordinate sub-class, or b) assimilate the conquered into their society ...

I guess we'll all find out together. It is bizarre though that we would be talking about the birthright citizen status of Native Americans. Talk about paradox. It might seem normal to us today, but the citizenship situation of Native Americans is far from a slam dunk. What we're talking about is tr...

What we're hearing aren't direct orders from him as our superior; what we hear are his pronouncements. They indicate the direction he'd like to go; where his head is on things.

I'm not saying it's good, but that's the way to be listening.

Trump at Davos says he'll "demand that interest rates drop immediately". During a period of sticky-upward inflation. Financial repression. Great for gold. Bring it! When questioned about that later he admitted it was hyperbole, that he just wanted to make a strong statement. Which again m...
