Re: Want to lose weight & treatment for diabetes

Vinegar has been shown to blunt the blood glucose and hence serum insulin spike when taken with carb heavy foods. A good example in practice would be the little plate with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar that a good crusty loaf of Italian bread is just begging to be dipped in before eating it. T...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Here's some recent information from the CDC regarding myocarditis and pericarditis following mRNA vaccination (starts at page 13). https://www.fda.gov/media/150054/download Good to get solid numbers. Page 18 I think is the most informative: for various age groups, it shows how many cases of myocard...

And regardless, your two final amounts are almost identical.
Looks to be about a $130k difference. Seems fairly different to me.
It's right at 5% over a period of 20 years. It's a lot of work and risk for a result that'll be lost in the noise of actual investment returns / taxes.

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

I'm not following. I'd have to see some numbers to understand what you are saying here. tax_screenshot.png Thanks. I understand now. That scenario has nothing to do with the approach I am discussing. I assume that you are starting with $1M after tax dollars to invest and you either pay taxes on the...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Whatever you do, you end up with more if you only pay taxes at the end. Definitely not true: simulate taking the 20% off the balance at the beginning, as opposed to taking it off the end or in the middle. You'll get the same end result as paying at the end. I'm not following. I'd have to see some n...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Mathematically, assuming the tax rate stays the same, it doesn't make any difference. You'll have exactly the same at the start as at the end. So having 20% more to "grow faster" doesn't matter since afterwards the 20% cut will be bigger. ... Maybe I'm still missing it, though. You might be missing...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Let's say the hypothetical tax rate is 20%, and you have a chunk of savings. You can either pay the taxes now, and then it grows tax-free, or you can let it grow and then pay the taxes later. Either way, the taxes are 20% of the amount. This is basically a traditional IRA vs a Roth IRA. Mathematical...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

It would benefit me also, as all my assets could grow as if they were in a tax sheltered account, thus my net worth would increase at a faster rate and, assuming that I fund my lifestyle as a percentage of my net worth, I could act richer, sooner. Mark, I promise I'm not trying to argue with you! I...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Wouldn't removing the "step-up on death" of assets also kill it? It seems that the point is to delay capital gains until you die, at which point you get a free step-up. Without the free step-up, the government gets its due eventually. Or am I missing the point? You got it Xan. But if that happens, ...

Re: What Did Nietzsche Mean by ‘God is Dead’?

The complete statement seems to be: God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What wate...

Re: What Did Nietzsche Mean by ‘God is Dead’?

This is obviously a deliberately provocative statement, meant more to define the state of humanity than the state of God. I think it can be read either of two ways, and I'm not sure which is correct. Either Nietzsche is lamenting that people no longer have the proper regard for God, or he's exaltin...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Why are the vaccines being pushed to the exclusion of anything else? Why is discussion and debate being shut down? Why is data being suppressed? Why are qualified doctors and scientists that question the vaccine narrative being canceled and suspended by social media platforms? None of that bothers ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I didn't say anything was okay or not okay, just that a reason that the vaccine is being pushed may simply be because it works. "Pushed" being a euphemism for "coercion"? There are certainly ways to "push" without being what I would call coercive, but I suppose it's a fine line that others could dr...

But I STILL do not understand what it means! Vinny, I think it's just the opposite of entropy. Wouldn't that be paradoxical to entropy? Like trying to believe in both predestination and free will? If one believes in entropy then how can its opposite also exist? I believe one of the laws of thermody...

Another theory that fits the facts is that there's a new virus floating around that's sufficiently dangerous both in terms of known and unknown short- and long-term effects to severely disrupt society, and that we now have multiple vaccines that work really well at preventing it. Great topic. I have noticed a few people I keep up with mentioned margin loans semi-recently: Tynan and MMM (may all praise and blessings be upon him). And as I mentioned in the other thread, I just finished a good book by Anderson, The Value Of Debt In Building Wealth, that talked about a lot of t...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

It seems to me that most everybody will get either Covid or the vaccine at some point in their lives, and that the odds of a bad outcome from the virus itself are much higher (by orders of magnitude) than the odds of a bad outcome from the vaccine. The downsides of the vaccine appear to be a subset ...

I just gave you my best attempt. It's a lot more than four or five, though. There were a multiplicity of weighty reasons why the Allies won. Not one. Not four of five. Pretty big bait & switch on the whole premise of the thread, especially since you started out saying "no, that's not one of the fiv...
