Re: Wages (e.g) at McDonalds

Yeah, I guess it’s changed, but it used to be that McDonald’s low level jobs were a way station before college or, for some, a managerial position. McDonald’s University. Now that the gig is a permanent job, some people are angrily demanding higher minimum wages. Something’s wrong. Did it change? I...

Re: Wages (e.g) at McDonalds

4. If average Americans don't feel they can afford to pay maybe a dollar or two more for a Big Mac then ask yourself why that is....I mean, where did most of the gains from the productivity growth of the past half century go to? Hint....it wasn't to low-paid entry level fast food workers; they aren...

Re: Yay PP!

Although we like to say thinking this time is different , rarely happens , the truth is history rarely repeats itself . Not long ago one of your oft-repeated tropes was how much money people lose assuming "this time is different" rather than sticking with "what has been and has a good chance of con...

Re: Yay PP!

It is what it is and it certainly illustrates the fact that the pp is experiencing a lot more interest rate drag . Both last year , and so far this year, as last year the pp lagged again with the same equity allocation the only difference being the interest rate and inflation weight on the other as...

Sorry, Xan, but we will have to agree to disagree. I personally re-use tea bags. I also clip coupons for my local carwash. I also labor under the assumption that everyone reading the forum personally knows that you can't invest in something unless you save something. As you suggest, the imperative ...

I'll let Mathjak answer for his opinion but I think this debate is between jhogue and pug. Mathjak merely seems to be saying that people make their own decisions about what their time is worth.

I-Bonds have no place in a HBPP. They really aren't suitable for a VP either. Something needs to have an upside potential of at least 5X to satisfy HB criteria for a good risk/reward speculation in a VP. YMMV.
Can you clarify that? Why not have your PP cash in I-bonds?

I just saw the Netherlands are building two tractors to support their green agenda, which is great, imo. Is your sentence correct as written? Two tractors? :o. Or is your sentence in jest? I interpreted that as two MODELS of tractor. Could be wrong. Shit...bleary eyed post in bed. Reactors! Nuclear...

Re: Bitcoin question (How did FBI recover some pipeline ransom)

This is mis-information all BTC transactions are visible to anyone on the blockchain. I make this point every time somebody extols the privacy benefits of Bitcoin. Literally all your transactions are recorded permanently, publicly, and for all time. That's the opposite of "privacy" in every way. TH...

Dualstow, I never saw Full House either, but I did see my share of America's Funniest Home Videos. It would be nice to say that I developed a fondness for Saget from that, but really "loathing" is probably more apt.

I am sure there are lots of people who buy electric not for 0 to 60 performance, but to help save the planet, and if you tell them they can get more miles on the battery and tire by accelerating slower, absolutely some would. Maybe those folks are buying Nissan Leafs and Chevy Volts and BMW i3s ins...

How's this for a scheme?

You buy CDs using a 2% cash back credit card and you instantly have a 2% tax free return.

I know someone who's been doing this for years.
You're talking about certificates of deposit, not compact discs, right? How do you buy CDs (the certificates) with a credit card?

But that doesn’t mean the actual return is 7% …it needs to appreciate in value ar least as much in share price to have a 7% distribution to be a 7% total return
Right, that's how they pay the dividend, by selling assets as needed.

Speaking of a $55,00 special levies, one of the things that I always struggled to understand when I lived in a co-op building in NYC was the overall financial health of the building. I highly recommend the Micheal Lewis book "The Undoing Project". At what point does an expecta...
