Dualstow, I thought your RIP signature said John McWhorter at first, and I was almost very upset.

Wouldn't they get the step-up regardless of whether it's physical or in a brokerage?

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
I almost always have the opposite problem with interviews, Vinny. The interviewer is there to try to maximize the amount of useful information we get out of the interviewee. If the interviewee is going along on his own, great! Way too often, the interviewer will inject himself, interrupt, etc, gener...

It seems that learning styles are actually a myth, and that in fact it's the educational-industrial complex which continues to promote them. https://onlineteaching.umich.edu/articles/the-myth-of-learning-styles/ https://www.educationnext.org/stubborn-myth-learning-styles-state-teacher-license-prep-m...

Re: EV / Hybrid basics?
I can sell back to the extent of my usage. I cannot turn it into a money making operation. But not fully understanding your message. I had a conversation with a solar sales guy one time. He said that the rules had recently changed and I could indeed sell power back to the electric company beyond wh...

Re: EV / Hybrid basics?
Are you looking to buy, Vinny? A specific brand or model in mind? I've had four Honda Accords in a row. Currently on a 2004. Bought it in December 2013 with 123,000 miles on it. Currently, has about 169,000. So, only 46,000 miles over nearly 11 years. Just over 4,000 a year. It's in great condition...

Re: YouTube Junkie
Overcharging in order to get a plea deal is a HUGE problem (in general, not just this case) and I'm not sure how to solve it. I'm thinking there should be no plea deals.
Re: Sigh...
As it became clear that this would be a Biden/Trump rematch without something weird happening, I was pretty convinced that whichever party could jettison one of them would win. And here we are.
Re: Sigh...
Even if I were a member of the cult, it's pretty clear that this guy is going to lose badly. That's my prediction right now, unless something big and unexpected happens between now and the election.

Re: "U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were"
A dollar went from being redeemable for 1/35 oz of gold to being redeemable for... nothing. That's a default.

Re: "U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were"
I understand that perspective but don't necessarily agree. The last time the U.S. defaulted on its debt was 1971, and the time previous to that was 1933. We often paint this narrative that these were simply changes or repudiation to the gold standard, but in reality, they were simply defaults. Thos...

"U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were"
U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were, research says They found that investors did not, as they had during previous episodes of global financial stress, pile into Treasuries and drive up their value. Instead, investors marked down Treasury securities, much as they did for bonds from other...

Re: Ross Ulbricht And Silk Road
After Biden dropping out of the race it looks like Trump's chances of winning have diminished. It further means that Ulbricht's chances of seeing the light of day outside of incarceration have diminished. Imagine your entire existence hinging on whether one man is going to win the election like tha...

Re: If
{ sigh } It's only step 1 of Biden being out. He needs to take step 2 of resigning. Logically it follows. Now that he knows there is a definite end to his presidency that makes it more likely he will resign. That'll never happen. He was barely convinced to drop out, meaning he at long last agreed t...
Re: If
The reason I asked is because I have a relative who was very anti-Bush but who voted for Ralph Nader in the 2000 election. And I always think, How did that work out for you . If every voter could be swayed to think along the lines of Jack, Vinny- er, Yankees60, and you, then we would see real chang...

A protest vote to any of the non-major-two is far better than not voting, IMHO. … By ‘better’, do you mean more moral on an individual level or do you also mean leading to a better (I guess long-term) outcome for the country? I mean that it expresses dissatisfaction with the main two options more f...

Vinny, how do you know anything about the Michigan secretary of state?
PredictIt.org currently gives Tulsi Gabbard a 7% chance of being Trump's VP pick. So maybe you'll get a chance to vote for her again.

Yeah, I kind of wrote that off as no big deal until it happened to me. Turns out it's kind of a pain.
