Re: Trump is the kind of person who would sign an EO to...
Well if nothing else, I am thankful Trump has inspired me to read Bastiat. ;D <snip> There is no country in the world where the law is kept more within its proper domain: the protection of every person's liberty and property. As a consequence of this, there appears to be no country in the world whe...

Re: Yet more (but not unexpected) amateur hour from Trump and his nothing but the best team!
Doesn’t anyone think that Jeffrey Goldberg “spilling the beans”, perhaps to get a big story for the Trump haters, is a national security issue, possibly helping the enemy? I do agree that Waltz inadvertently (?) adding him to the chat was a huge error. I missed this before. I think he was performin...

There's not really any functional difference between doing that and just printing money, is there?

Gold was $850/oz in February of 1980, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics says is equivalent to $3,437.51 as of February of 2025.

Vinny, I was also busting your chops as far as the writer making his meaning clear. The opportunity was just too good.

It would be cool to have your employment contract priced in gold.
Well... Sort of. There was nothing that guaranteed that the dollar would always be linked to gold going forward.

Re: Stock scream room
There wasn't anything (like quoting) to make it clear who was saying what. I've heard it many times here that it's up to the speaker/writer to make sure that his meaning is clear, rather than leaving it up to the listener/reader to figure it out.

Re: DOGE killed off IRS Free File
thanks for the tip about EFTPS! Good to have an alternative. It looks more secure. It was set up in the 90s and eventually all organizations making payroll tax deposits could no longer make them by check at a bank but, instead, had to make them all online using EFTPS. Sometime later I found out tha...

Re: DOGE killed off IRS Free File
Apparently the team that got let go also built IRS Direct Pay, which I now use the dickens out of, before I had to write out a paper check, print and clip out the 1040-ES, fill it out in black or blue ink, put a stamp on it, mail it, hope it wouldn't get stolen. I've always used EFTPS to make tax p...

Re: DOGE killed off IRS Free File
It looks like "Free File" is different from "Free File Fillable Forms" , which is the great product that I use. Or are they the same thing? You've been using the latter for years? The former is something relatively new? Many years. I don't know how old the other one is or really...

Re: Balancing Gains and Losses Every Year to Eliminate Capital Gains Tax in the Long Run
This could work if you find out beforehand what amount you need for the offsetting. Then you sell the position that is in the red in the amount required to generate losses of a sufficient amount. Then you sell the position with the profit and the tax result is zero. Assuming you have a position tha...

Re: Balancing Gains and Losses Every Year to Eliminate Capital Gains Tax in the Long Run
Hello everyone! 👋 I’ve been wondering, is it possible to eliminate capital gains tax in the long term by consistently closing positions with gains and offsetting them with positions at a loss, in equal amounts, every year within a portfolio (PP)? If the gains and losses balance out, can this strate...

Minor correction: Used way more than two times. Other than Little Boy and Fat Man, bunches of tests by mainly the US and the Soviet Union were done. Re: Ross Ulbricht pardoned
Apart from the particulars of these cases, plea bargains in general are in my opinion corrupt. Throw 8 lifetimes sentences at somebody and then offer them a slap on the wrist if they plead guilty. The practice should be abolished. If the practice were abolished, are you proposing that every single ...
