Re: Dr Seuss

The bigger issue here is actually copyright. Originally, copyright in the Constitution was 14 years. It may have been renewable once. Copyright is a relatively recent (1600 or so, IIRC) invention. It artificially allows one person or entity to "own" the rights to producing a work. Copyright is a mon...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

Another fun fact is that at least one pharma executive has not submitted himself to his own experimental program. Something about a cook who won't eat his own food... He's just as likely to be excoriated for taking a vaccine away from somebody who needed it more. This is one of those no-win PR look...

All that matters is what it means to you. We had it bad ourselves and were hospitalized for weeks , we lost friends , family members , others we know have permanent damage ..this is real , this is fact . Statistics mean nothing to is humans ....we only have two possible outcomes , bad shit happened...

I guess my kids' copies of Scrambled Eggs Super and McElligot's Pool are now very valuable! We're basically there. I think this is more a ceiling than asymptotic because we're talking about transistors being so small that quantum effects prevent them from working anymore so we can't fit any more transistors on a silicon chip. I don't think these are in conflict. You can have a ceiling, an...

technology is massively deflationary I used to take this as a given as well, and I pointed to Moore's law as an underlying reason for this. But Moore's law is hitting a physical boundary and so at least from computing power technology we can start to see a ceiling. Of course, improvements in effici...

But seriously, I Shrugged. YES. Watch it asap. 8) When I was in high school we camped out for the first new Star Wars movie in ages. While in line (multiple days, in shifts) the theater would let us go in and see films without losing our place. Pretty good deal for everyone. Most of the movies I sa...

Ivor Cummins videos do the same thing, but you don't have to sign up for anything. He's also put out a whitepaper on the topic - you can download from his website. I don't see it, Sophie, do you have a link? Here it is. Buried in the blog section. https://thefatemperor.com/science-and-data-based-2-...

I use it every day and I contribute now and then (both editing and funds). It is amazing that it is still ad-free. It’s gotten a bit political, which is annoying. The “deletionists” bug the shit out of me. They give the full birth name of anyone and everyone, except for people who've changed their ...

Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

Well, Bitcoin is an inflation-resistant, censorship-resistant, seizure-resistant, pseudonymous digital asset. And governments like inflating, censorship, taxation, and privacy intrusion. Emphasis mine. Pseudonymity is a major step backwards, is it not? Gold is anonymous. Cash (physical) is anonymou...

Re: Buy and Hold Stock Millionaires

Clark Howard (haven't listened in a long time, but it's still relevant) always recommended that people aim to allocate zero percent of their portfolio to their company's stock. The rationale is that you have enough (too much, really) of your financial life tied to that one company already. If it goe...

General moral decline of country is a personal problem for people who think women shouldn't vote and aren't allowed to have a penis. Good news! Everyone is now allowed to have a penis--and at taxpayer expense. If you’re late will you be penalized? You have to say that the way Alex Trebek did or it ...

It is important to just understand that throwing equal amounts of money in to outcomes that are anything but equal as far as playing out does not mean you are not betting on the under dog with the same amount of money as the favorite and that in itself is a pretty heavy bet on the under dog odds Th...

Hey, I know this is in the politics section -- I do lurk at times. The Texas thing -- one specific aspect caught my eye. Everything I hear makes it sound like Texas disconnected itself at some point in the past from the more "national" interconnected grid. Is this true, and if so, why? Doesn't make...

You could just move to a state that doesn't have sales or capital gains tax on bullion (Utah, Oklahoma, Wyoming). Kansas may be heading that way too. This of course assumes they don't change their laws. Even with zero state taxes, (South Dakota) the Feds still tax capital gains on bullion. Yes, and...

Back to single, unskilled workers, say a busboy in a Chicago restaurant. Making federal min wage of $7.25/hr. $15,080 gross per year. Is that livable in Chicago? With food, rent, utilities, phone, and possibly car expenses? Would seem to be cutting it close. I live frugally, I am pretty sure I coul...

Take food stamps for example. Should people be able to buy soda with food stamps? No...we limiting their freedom to make choices. I don't see any easy answers...
