Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

There has been talk here of using the convention center as a hospital. Apparently we were recently close to some threshold for doing that, but backed off. I'm not sure what the current status is on elective procedures. https://www.statesman.com/news/20200707/austin-convention-center-being-prepped-as...

Re: Google services are failing

They recently tore out the guts of Edge and replaced them with the guts of Chrome. That might explain why the sudden change in performance.

Re: Grover Norquist now!

I really have major problems with the whole system of plea bargaining. How many innocent people have pleaded guilty in order to avoid having their lives completely ruined?

Re: Roger Stone Freed by Trump

One other note: I don't believe Stone was pardoned. I think his sentence was commuted. There are important differences (and also similarities, of course).

Re: Roger Stone Freed by Trump

The gist of all this is the investigation should have never happened in the first place, so he would have never done the things he did without the investigation, right? So, just curious if anyone knows -- if police had a search warrant for my house to find something particular, say a gun (are these...

Re: Grover Norquist now!

That actually was a part of the civil rights movement in the '60s. MLK was adamant that if it's okay to dehumanize anybody, then anybody can be dehumanized. His niece Alveda King carries on his work of championing the lives of the unborn. For some reason whenever the popular press lionizes MLK, all ...

Re: Stock scream room

There was basically no point to getting out of the market before the crash. (I didn’t). Amazing recovery. I’ve been trimming my vp, though. Seems logical to trim some gains on shares purchased during the decline (no tax implications). I convinced myself to at least rebalance to the more aggressive ...

I am personally extremely partial to further diversifying the PP into international assets as well as factors. My big fear for a vanilla domestic PP? Japan. The following is the drawdown chart for a traditional PP in Japan. japan.png When we diversify the equity portion of the portfolio with half g...

Re: Texts vs. Emails vs. Phone Calls

I've sometimes wondered, if an online discussion forum were to limit each member to a maximum of one or two posts per day, would the average quality of discussion on that forum increase noticeably? I suspect it would. That's an interesting idea and one that would potentially could be experimented w...

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Former NFL player Alfred Morris still drives his 1991 Mazda 626. IIRC he drove all the way from... somewhere many states away to Washington, DC when he was drafted by the Redskins. Was still driving it a few years back when he finished his career with the Cowboys. I think Mazda gave it a full refurb...

As for the church, it's funny, I was just chatting with a friend over dinner the other day about exploring churches in the area. Serendipity! Thanks for the recommend.
Cool! It's just a shame they've had to put Pint Night on hiatus because of the virus.
