Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Studies show that .99738 of Vinny’s posts have very specific dates and statistics in them. But... the extra game in 1978 was on October 2, not October 1. It was a "very specific date", albeit off by one day, going by memory... I'm just giving you a hard time, Vinny, it's very impressive.

Re: Assorted Gold-related News

I find it doubtful that they are unsalable. Not easily salable? At any rate, I don’t expect the thieves have a lot of respect for the pieces as a whole. That only happens in movies. However, are there not always private collectors who don't care that that they are stolen and are willing to pay big ...

Nobody had gotten 4 extra base hits in the World Series since 1906. Nobody had ever been intentionally walked 4 times in a postseason game.

Ohtani did both in the same game.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Completely tangential: your mention of Meet the Press reminded me of the music "The Mission" by John Williams. It was commissioned by NBC News in 1985. The first movement contains the iconic trumpet fanfare used for the nightly news, and the fourth and final movement was (still is?) used a...

Fellas... Could we be civil please? Mathjak, regardless of how it's presented, could you consider that dockinGA might have a valid point about monopolizing conversations? dockinGA, your actual issues are being obscured by your rudeness and personal attacks.

Reasonable people can certainly disagree with him on the issues. But taking a step back, what he really believed was that the path forward was through civil discourse. He was an advocate of leaving your "bubble" and having healthy debates about issues. He was on Gavin Newsom's podcast rece...

Re: Why was failed Craker Barrel logo called "woke"?

It was a terrible, depersonalized, emotionless design, and say that even I have only eaten there once, not a repeat customer. But why was it called "woke"? This leads me to believe that "woke" is just a catch-all bin for anything that some people don't like. I've wondered the sa...

Don't like it. But there is an argument that "the US govt taking a 10% stake in Intel Corp" is better than just giving the company free money like the CHIPS Act does. Two wrongs don't make a right, but this is more of trying to make the first wrong somewhat less of a wrong. I suppose ther...

Re: Gold tax location

Why would I want to subject money removed from an IRA to be taxed at an uncapped marginal rate when the simple act of making it "taxable gold" caps my marginal tax rate at 28%? Yes, you have to have a great income to get there, based on 2025 brackets, but I'm concerned about 2035 brackets...

I do hate the idea of the US govt taking a 10% stake in Intel Corp. Does anyone like it? I know you were asking for people who like it, so sorry... But it's just terrible. I have similar issues with extorting NVidia on deals with China. If it's for national security, then it shouldn't be allowed. B...

For those of you who own Gold in ETF form ... which of the following is your preferred tax location and why? 2) Traditional IRA Trad IRA could be a bad place... because remember, even with taxable accounts gold is treated as Ordinary Income except the marginal tax rate is capped at 28%. The IAUM spread is .03% and its expense ratio is .09%. GLD's spread is .01% and its expense ratio is .40%. Let's say you own it for a year. With IAUM you've saved 31 basis points in expense ratio. You'd have had to trade in and out 15 times in order to lose that much on the spread. If you're really ...
