Re: Privacy terms - Google Drive vs OneDrive

Lesson: never let anyone else "manage" your domain for you. Register it yourself. Isn't this true of most things in life? No one else is as invested as you are, as is likely to mess it up. I keep a personal domain for email, and use KolabNow as a host. One day I'll just set up my own mail server, b...

Re: When the cops are the criminals

...any number of things could have killed their kid, and if they had cared enough, they could have prevented it. True, but those other things didn't. In this case, it was the actions of the officer that triggered the outcome. Agree that the parents made a poor choice, but I also believe that those ...

Re: Watching Wikipedia's extinction event from a distance

Watching Wikipedia's extinction event from a distance Obscure articles like this are what make Wikipedia great, but they are also most at risk under the current bureaucratic calcification. At some point, someone replaced the entire article with copy-paste text from a book. That triggered a bot that...

Re: When the cops are the criminals

Not letting the officer off the hook here, but it probably actually is criminally negligent in the part of the parents for the baby not being properly fastened in the vehicle. The officer chose to speed, and the parents chose not to bother fastening their baby. The parents might deserve more blame, ...

Re: Familiar?

Grant was magnanimous at a personal level, but he had no love for the ideals of slavery or the people who favored them by the time the civil war ended. The war changed him and Lincoln, it made them LESS tolerant of slavery. The latter part of the quote was my intent for posting. Bad is bad and the ...

Re: Privacy terms - Google Drive vs OneDrive

(2) Signed up for protonmail, paid version. I still use gmail, but it's nice to have something alongside it. Gmail-to-gmail is now encrypted, I believe. Email as it goes from one server to another is typically encrypted, but it's of limited help. If both servers support encryption, it'll work, but ...

Re: Donald Trump For President?

There used to be Libertarians on this forum.  They have all disappeared, every last one of them.  It's been interesting to watch.  I have not read all the subsequent comments to this. But it seems like either this comment was a false one or many of the Libertarians have since come back? Vinny It wa...

Re: Privacy terms - Google Drive vs OneDrive

Is there a particular program you guys recommend to encrypt cloud based files? I use Diskcyptor to encrypt local drives, but not sure if/how that would work for individual files that would be uploaded to the cloud. GPG is probably the default tool for encryption that I would use. I don't have any e...

Re: Privacy terms - Google Drive vs OneDrive

Tech is right: if you want to keep it private, you have to encrypt it yourself. Are you saying that portals provided by investment firms and CPA firms and the like may not be secure? Vinny That's certainly possible, yes. But in general, anybody who has encrypted something is also able to decrypt it...
