Re: They just redefined the standard of weights and measures

A number of the generally accepted standards of weights and measure, including the kilogram, have been redefined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/a-massive-change-nations-will-vote-to-redefine-the-kilogram/2018/11/15/b5704b0a-e6c7-11...

The bottom picture is the one I'm familar with.
The top one looks way more appetizing, IMHO.
Agreed. The bottom one is almost entirely bread (with a little pepperoni hiding in the middle).

Re: Kavanaugh

Love or hate Trump, these supreme court appointments show why his election was so pivotal. No kidding. He hasn't been there two years and has made two picks. One was a "refresh", one a sort-of-flip, now there's a flip potentially on the table and another flip (Breyer?) isn't out of the question. A ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

A good Lutheran pastor absolutely should treat the Law the way you describe. All that harshness is true about the Law. It just that the story doesn't have to end there. You sound very much like the disciples upon hearing Jesus say that it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Yeah, pretty major hammer. Balance would suggest you also quote verses 1-14. And oh yeah, the next chapter puts it all in context which I always find to be useful information. Arguably, the hammer came down as described. Pick one, Assyrians, Babylonians, Romans. Any would likely do for fulfilling t...

Re: New I Bond Rate 11/1/18 to 4/30/18

I don't even think I-bonds are all that deep. The 3 months' worth of interest penalty is... not much. I wouldn't have any problem having my emergency fund in I-bonds. In the unlikely event I need it quickly, I could withdraw it and pay the small penalty. In the very likely event I don't need it quic...

Re: New I Bond Rate 11/1/18 to 4/30/18

Treasury Direct announced the new I Bond rate this morning. The new fixed rate, which will apply from 1 November 2018 to 30 April 2019, is 0.50%. Added to the previously announced variable rate of 2.33%, the new composite rate will be 2.83%, tax deferred for 30 years and free from state and local t...

So if I have an HDHP, can't I contribute to my Lively HSA by myself, report on Form 8889, enter amount on Form 1040 Line 25, and have my AGI reduced by $8000 for 2019? I am old enough to do the catch-up.
That's how I've always done it. I didn't know there was another way, actually.

Re: the left is eating itself abortion split

That actually happened with my wife’s family. Her mom had special permission to have a second child because she was in the military. For some reason, the Chinese authorities changed their minds *after* she was pregnant and asked her to abort! She chose not to, and gave birth to my future wife. I’m ...

Re: Tax Loss Harvesting Support Group

There’s no reason to wait the 31 days. There are many similar but not equal substitutes. OK. What that would be, say, for IAU? GLD; you’re not comfortable with the low trading volume in IAU That sounds pretty dicey to me. I'd say that switching from an open-ended fund like GLD or IAU to a closed-en...
