Re: another linux thread: new machine
I would recommend against running a KDE desktop environment with those specs. If you want something more full-featured than LXLE, why not give something like Linux Mint Mate Edition a try?

Re: Elementary OS, Freya (Linux): tried it?
What would be a good "minimalistic" Linux distro to use on a 10-year-old clunker PC? Just for tinkering around on the Linux command line. I had previously been using Ubuntu on that PC, but one of the recent software updates screwed something up and now it won't even boot. So a distro that...

LOL! Almost as funny as the cute little black boy playing with his toy truck among the True Believers. Anyway, I feel in the mood to dual boot this weekend. What is currently the most Windows-like distribution? There was one mentioned in another thread. Linux Mint with the cinnamon desktop envir...

I'd like to see the bid-ask spread on those other "investments". For some reason that is very difficult to find, but that's probably a coincidence. For rare coins atleast, transaction costs absurd! My off the top of...

TripleB,
Awesome post! I especially loved the part about marketing and investments; I never considered a mutual fund to have much in common with, say, a golf club. Perhaps Fama/French are to DFA what Tiger is (was?) to Nike Golf?

The Mormons seem to spend all of their time together (at leas...

Alcohol is that happy combination: a pleasurable substance that also conveys health benefits. Those benefits are greatest if you drink moderately. But even drinking more than is “perfectly”? recommended, without displaying clinical symptoms of problem drinking or alcohol dependence (and these are n...

Any avid fly-fisherman here?
So,
I moved to Idaho from Texas around a year ago, and I've since rediscovered my love of fishing. I was wondering if anyone who posts here likes to fly fish too.

Same comment as above. Good advice that unfortunately doesn't really ease my pain. My advice keeps the IRS hands off of your retirement income, and may actually make you a beneficiary from popular redistribution. There will always be opportunities for smart and flexible people to use the existing ...

Bump. Seriously, not one person has a comment on this? First, I had no idea how the net equity in a brokerage account was calculated for insurance purposes, thanks for bringing this up! So now I have to reevaluate the brokerages I use in particular and investing with a brokerage firm in general. If...
